Tämä Tuusulassa kasvaneen männyn juuresta tehty veistos tuo esiin metsäluontomme hyvinvoinnin tärkeimmän tekijän: lahonneen puuaineksen. Juurisyy metsiemme lajikadolle on lahopuun vähyys. Suomen metsien keski-ikä on 44 vuotta. Talousmetsässä lahopuuta on keskimäärin 2-10m2 hehtaarilla, kun luonnonmetsässä vastaava luku on 60-90m2. Elämää tuottava kuolema on terveen metsäluonnon elinehto. Juurisyy on hyvinvoivan monimuotoisen metsän vertauskuva - ehyt ja lahonnut puu vuorottelevat toisiaan.
This sculpture, made from the root of a pine tree growing in Tuusula, highlights the most important factor in the well-being of our forest nature: decayed wood. The root cause of the loss of species in our forests is the lack of decayed wood. The average age of Finnish forests is 44 years. In a commercial forest, there is an average of 2-10m2 of decayed wood per hectare, while in a natural forest the corresponding figure is 60-90m2. Death that produces life is the lifeblood of healthy forest nature. The root cause is a metaphor for a healthy, diverse forest - healthy and decayed wood alternate.
