Koskaan ei tiedä missä hyvä veistosaihio tulee vastaan. Tämän veistoksen aihioon törmäsin metsäpolulla Keski-Suomessa. Polun varrella oli lahonnut pihlajan kanto, joka nousi helposti irti maasta vetämällä. Luonto on vahva ohjaaja useimmissa veistoksissani, mutta joskus aihio tarjoaa minulle niin sanotusti “vapaammat kädet”. Tämän veistoksen teossa mielikuvitus olikin luontoa määräävämpi tekijä. Lahon sisältä löytyi kovaa ja hienokuvioista puuta. Jalusta on Asikkalan Viitailasta Vesijärven pohjasta nostettua raitaa, joka oli jo löytyessään harmaata.
You never know where you can find a good preform. This one I found on a forest path in Central Finland. A decayed rowan stump along the path came easily off the ground. Nature usually has much say in my art, but sometimes I get a chance to work more freely. With this piece, my imagination directed the process more than nature. The decay hid underneath some hard and finely patterned wood. The stand is goat willow from the bottom of lake Vesijärvi in Viitaila, Asikkala. It had already gone gray when I found it.
