Muutama syksy sitten olin viettämässä viikonloppua perinteisesti vanhan kaveriporukan kanssa Padasjoella Päijänteen Virmailansaaressa. Kaverini sanoi että hänellä on muutama erikoisen värinen koivuklapi puuliiterissä. “Lastu" on tehty yhdestä kirjavasta Virmailansaaren koivuklapista. Puun kuviot ovat tyypillisiä koivun lahottajasienien tuotoksia.
A few autumns back I enjoyed a weekend away with some old friends – a long-standing tradition by now. We were at Padasjoki on the isle of Virmailansaari at lake Päijänne. My friend told me he has a few peculiarly coloured bits of birch in the woodshed. “Splint” is from one of these pieces. The markings are typical for rot fungus in birch.
