"Pari" on lahjoituksena saatua harmaaleppää, jota ei oltu raaskittu erikoisen mutkansa takia pilkkoa klapeiksi. Tämä veistos poikkeaa muusta tuotannosta, sillä siinä ei ollut yhtään lahopuuta. Toisaalta, veistoksen puulaji ja puuaineksen mutkaisuus tekevät veistoksen materiaalista metsäteollisuuden näkökulmasta arvotonta. Polttopuunakin lepät kuuluvat lämpöarvoltaan heikoimpien joukkoon. Taidepuuksi materiaali on sen sijaan mitä parhainta. Messinkiseen jalustaan tavoittelin samaa vedenpinnan aaltomaista vaikutelmaa kuin "Elon kierto" -veistoksen jalustassa.
“Pair” is from a bit of grey alder I was given. The piece had been saved rather than chopped into firewood thanks to its exceptional curve. Unlike the other sculptures, this one didn’t have deadwood. On the other hand, the species of the tree and the curve would have deemed it worthless to the forest industry. Even as firewood, the calorific value is among the weakest. But for the purposes of art, the material is just right. As for the brass stand, I wanted to give it the same water wave-like finish as for the stand of the sculpture “Elon kierto”.
